Benefits

CSP was created to bring pathologists together and give them a voice in government, allowing them to relate problems and issues to legislative and regulatory policy makers. Members work together in a regulatory environment designed to encompass all areas having a potential impact on pathology in California, such as:

  • State Legislation and Regulation

  • Insurance Law

  • Workers Compensation

  • Medi-Cal Reimbursement

  • Working with Medicare Carriers

CSP members and their concerns are represented at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Some of the more recent issues have been:

  • CLIA Conformity Issues

  • Direct Billing of Laboratory Services

  • Point-of-Care Testing Equipment

  • Cytology and PAP Smear Evaluations

  • Physician Self-Referral Prohibition

  • Hospital Employment of Physicians

The CSP is also the focal point for interaction with other state and national societies such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Resources & Guidance
Many members utilize the CSP as a resource for information and direction on legal and practice issues. We provide references to outside attorneys and consultants for specific member assistance.

California Seminars in Pathology
The California Seminars in Pathology is the CSP Annual Meeting which has achieved national status as one of the highest quality CME opportunities for pathologists. Attendees come from throughout the United States. The substantial membership discount on registration fees practically compensates for dues costs. A small percentage of pathologists work with state and local governments as coroners and medical examiners to investigate unexplained deaths.

Newsletter
The CSP Bulletin is a publication designed to keep members abreast of Society activities, events, trends and information. It also provides an excellent, useful, and reliable review of local, state and national legislative activities.

E-Newsletter
Another valuable information resource is CSP's E-Newsletter, a periodic distribution of timely information sent via e-mail. Members can sign-up by e-mailing the CSP with "Add me to CSP's E-Newsletter" in the subject line.
